Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and comments on depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives was the result of her research. She also serves as the director of operations. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. Additionally she aims to create awareness of online harassment directed at women, and other those who are marginalized. A graduate in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after speaking engagement and has given talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. As a university student she became interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and women's rights in the early stages. The determined young lady was harassed by the Internet for starting a web featuring a series about gender and videogames. The attack did be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic. As a result of the many achievements she's made for feminism, she is awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received many awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency as an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in popular culture narratives.
